Every Day is Earth Day
Sustainable Solutions
Environmental stewardship has always been a fundamental part of St. Joseph Communications’ business philosophy. From environmental certifications and pollution abatement systems to waste reduction and reforestation, we are committed to improving the environment upon which our business and quality of life depend. We have extended this commitment through Exhibits, offering the most environmentally friendly products and procedures.
Partners in Growth™
St. Joseph Communications is committed to help replenish the environment upon which our business and quality of life depend. This is the motivation behind our unique reforestation program, Partners in Growth™, which we developed with Scouts Canada in 1990. To date, the program has led to the planting of over 2.5 million trees across Canada, covering 3,400 acres. For every ton of paper used on behalf of the paper used for our customers print jobs, St. Joseph Communications facilitates the planting of seedlings through Scouts Canada's Scoutrees program.
Environmental Choice Program
In 2005, St. Joseph Communications' Ottawa facility became certified by the Environmental Choice Program - Environment Canada's eco-labelling program. To qualify for the program, a product or service must be made or offered in a way that improves energy efficiency, reduces hazardous by-products, uses recycled materials, is reusable, or provides some other environmental benefit. The ECP provides consumers with a level of assurance that the product bearing the EcoLogo meets stringent environmental criteria, evaluated by a credible third party.
ecomark
St. Joseph Communications’ industry-leading chain-of-custody program — ecomark — offers customers the benefits of the world’s three leading forest management programs: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification™ (PEFC). In 2002, St. Joseph Communications became the first heatset web printer in North America to achieve FSC certification. In 2008, all of St. Joseph’s print facilities were certified for both PEFC and SFI. The ecomark program provides our customers with access to the broadest selection of environmentally friendly paper options and chain-of-custody certification programs in the industry.

Environmental benefits of Exhibits
We use biodegradable cardboard made from recycled materials for packaging.
We use manufacturing fabric scraps as fillers in packing of products.
We use motion-sensing switches for our production processes to eliminate high-energy consumption.
We print the majority of our graphics with environmentally safe water and vegetable-based inks.
We encourage our customers to return used exhibits and graphics for reconditioning or recycling and promote the resale of used and refurbished exhibit properties to reduce products entering the landfill.
Almost all of our cardboard packaging materials are made of post-consumer recycled paper products and are fully recyclable. We have a policy to reduce and reuse packing materials whenever possible.
MDF boards are made with pre-consumer scrap wood and post-consumer recycled paper materials.
We offer rental programs for clients to consider for their exhibits as a way to reuse and reduce their carbon footprint. This translates to less transportation time and reduction in fuel use.
Nomadic Display
Nomadic has a long-standing commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle. The inherent nature of its products – lightweight, fabricated from environmentally friendly materials and supported by eco-friendly operational processes – has made Nomadic a leader in the green exhibiting movement. The following are examples of the environmental attributes of Nomadic displays:
The grey foam inside of Nomadic’s molded cases is made from recycled materials.
Nomadic sends all steel scraps to recycling centres.
All of the aluminum used to construct the Nomadic Instand display is from at least 38% recycled post-consumer waste. This includes all aluminum parts of the pop-up frame, struts, lights and case.
The Nomadic Instand display frames and struts are made from materials that are 100% recyclable.
Pressure-sensitive heating adhesive is used instead of solvent-based adhesives. Solvent-based adhesives are known to release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that contribute to indoor and outdoor air pollution as well as damage soil and groundwater.
Nomadic uses biodegradable cardboard made from recycled materials for packaging.
Nomadic uses manufacturing fabric scraps as fillers in packing of products.
Nomadic uses the maximum amount of reprocessed materials for all plastic products.
Nomadic's manufacturing plants maximize technology for internal processes to eliminate paper in transactions.
Nomadic uses motion-sensing switches for its production processes in production plant and offices to eliminate high-energy consumption.
Nomadic DesignLine extrusions are made of 100% recyclable aluminum.
Nomadic Instand’s new Premier tradeshow fabric panels are made from Eco-fi™ fabric that contains polyester made from 100% certified post-consumer recycled plastic bottles. While recycled products often come with a higher price tag, the price for Eco-fi™ fabrics will be same as those of our current standard fabrics.
Nomadic's Lifetime Warranties keep the products in clients hands instead of the landfill if they break.
